The Data

The Data

Jefferson’s List has compiled publicly available data sets from reporting commissions across the country that were produced by campaigns required by law to provide itemized information on expenditures.

The data are then provided to the public by the governing body that oversees the election. In the United States, the Federal Elections Commission oversees all 536 federal races. Then each of the 50 states oversees their own legislative and statewide races. Finally, most counties and municipalities oversee their elections for local races such as mayors, commissions, coroners, registers, district attorney, etc.

Of the estimated $100 billion dollars spent in the political system over the last 20 years, Jefferson’s List has procured, collated, and released over $30 billion in transactions with more being added every day.

Dan Siegel has spent the last seven years working in the business of politics. Starting as a field staffer, Dan won acclaim during his time on the Obama campaign in 2012, earning a place on PoliticsPA’s “30 under 30.” After running citywide races in Philadelphia and targeted legislative districts in New Jersey, Dan opened a consulting firm to bring high-quality management talent to down-ballot races.

TJ has spent his career taking on the political status quo and challenging assumptions of conventional campaigning. He got his start as a field organizer for Barack Obama ‘08 in West Philadelphia. He went on to run campaigns on the city and state level.

In 2014, he made headlines for taking on the Philadelphia Democratic machine at the ward-level nearly overthrowing a longtime ward leader by engaging new Philadelphians in the political process. He was also a founding staffer for Philadelphia 3.0 —a PAC which reshaped the municipal elections in 2015— by supporting reform candidates for Philadelphia City Council.
